Bournemouth saw a potential late move for Fran Garcia blocked by Real Madrid on deadline day, according to reports from Spain.

Marca explain that Andoni Iraola pushed in recent hours to take the left-back to the Premier League. However, Real Madrid made it clear they would not allow any departures before the winter window closes. As a result, the operation did not progress.

COPE first revealed the story and reported that Bournemouth’s interest came directly from Iraola. The Cherries’ manager knows Fran Garcia well from their time together at Rayo Vallecano. He trusts the player and viewed him as a strong reinforcement for his squad. That previous relationship played a central role in the approach.

From the player’s side, the report states that Fran Garcia was open to a change. He has struggled for minutes at Real Madrid this season. Álvaro Carreras currently sits ahead of him in the pecking order. In addition, the coaching staff have recently preferred Eduardo Camavinga at left-back. That choice has left Fran Garcia unused in several matches.

Despite that context, Real Madrid remain firm. Iraola previously brought out the best in Fran Garcia at Rayo, which convinced Madrid to keep him permanently. Even so, the club do not want to weaken their squad mid-season.

For Bournemouth, that stance means the door is now closed, at least until the summer.
