Having seemingly failed to convince Inter Milan and/or Nicolò Barella about a potential transfer, Newcastle United have turned their attention to Sandro Tonali.
News of the Magpies’ interest in the AC Milan star emerged late on Tuesday, and there are now new updates emerging from Italy, courtesy of Sport Italia.
The outlet reveal that after the €60-65m bid from Newcastle for the midfielder, the player’s entourage ‘have landed in London’ to seemingly discuss a potential transfer further.
The official line from them will be that they are there ‘for other meetings’, but there’s no denying the discussion regarding Tonali’s potential contract at St James’ Park ‘has started’.
As things stand, talks are being held over a four or five year Newcastle contract ‘worth €6m’, which will go up with bonuses.
To put that in context, Tonali currently earns €2.5m at Milan, meaning he would be more than doubling his wages on Tyneside should the move be completed.
Regarding the fee, it’s also recalled that part of whatever Newcastle pay will end up in the bank account of Brescia and Massimo Cellino, who ‘boast a percentage of the future sale’ including in the initial €14.5m deal taking the now 23-year-old to San Siro.
