There’s some more claims from Brazil regarding Chelsea’s pursuit of Thiago Silva. This time it’s Globo Esporte journalist Paulo Vinícius Coelho who comes up with an update on the situation.

He writes that manager Frank Lampard has asked for the 36-year-old’s arrival so the defender can be a ‘dressing room leader’.

It was the coach who indicated the signing, and it’s likely that Silva would be the ‘new captain’ at Chelsea for the upcoming season.

Paulo Vinícius Coelho, who’s one of the most reliable sports journalists in Brazil, says the deal isn’t signed yet, but ‘should’ be concluded before the end of the week.

It’s claimed that Thiago Silva wants to play at the World Cup in 2022, and will be 38 by then. That’s why it’s so important to feature in a top league, and this is the reason why he rejected talks with clubs from China and Qatar.

Chelsea would also be a final attempt for the defender to win the Champions League, since he couldn’t do it at AC Milan or Paris Saint Germain.
