After spending one season at Espanyol, Rubi left the Catalan club to take the managerial job at Real Betis.

In his only summer transfer window at Espanyol, he signed Borja Iglesias and now wants the striker to join him at his new club. Valencia are also interested in him, but the Seville side do not seem to be worried about the competition.

Estadio Deportivo reports Betis fear a club from the Premier League will try to beat them to the 26-year-old’s signing and this is when Everton gets a mention.

A ‘club like Everton’ will not have any issue in paying the player’s buyout clause and would also be in a position to offer better wages than Betis.

Iglesias has a release clause of €28m in his contract and Betis are willing to offer a salary just above €2m per year.

The problem for Rubi’s new club is to pay the transfer fee, which they were hoping to pay in instalments. However, Espanyol are unwilling to agree to this method of payment.

It is still not clear if Marco Silva’s side are interested in the Espanyol star, who scored 20 goals and registered three assists in all competitions last season.

They say ‘clubs like Everton’, which insinuates interest, but they’re not completely clear.

Valencia were also linked today in the Spanish media.
