Fran Villalba’s transfer from Valencia to Birmingham City is being taken as a done deal by the Spanish media this Monday.
Outlet Levante says there are ‘little’ details left for the Championship side to complete the signing and announce this three-year contract with the Blues.
The report says the clubs have found a very peculiar agreement for this transfer, with a bunch of clauses which could bring him back to Valencia soon.
Firstly: Villalba is signing for Birmingham City, but 75% of his rights will still belong to Valencia.
The Spanish side can bring him back for free after his first year in England. For Birmingham City to stop that, they must pay €3m and buy another 25% of his rights.
That would still leave Valencia with half of a future transfer. There’s also another clause saying the La Liga side are paid €2m in case the Blues get the promotion to the Premier League.
This is an interesting deal, especially because third-party ownership has been forbidden by FIFA a long time ago, so these clauses are probably all made of future sale percentages.
