Let’s take you back about 10 months or so to the 2016 January transfer window.
Still within touching distance of the Premier League title at this stage, Tottenham were looking for reinforcements to help them try and catch up with the steamroller that was Leicester City, and one of the names on the list was Barcelona’s Sandro.
The 21-year-old centre-forward was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, and everything looked like it would work out, but it never did.
Sandro stayed at Barcelona for the remainder of the season before eventually leaving the Catalan giants on a free in the summer to sign for Malaga, where he currently leads the line.
Speaking to AS about his botched move to England, the striker revealed the reason why he never made the jump to the Premier League.
He said: “The interest from England was in January. Barcelona didn’t let me leave and I was free to go where I wanted to in the summer. When my agent told me about Malaga’s interest, I didn’t think about it. I came here, saw the fanbase and how they love football. It really appealed to me.”
Despite the fact Barcelona were so reluctant to let him go, Sandro only made one appearance for the La Liga champions after the January transfer window closed, in a 1-1 draw against Valencia in the Copa del Rey.
He spent the rest of the time either not in the squad or injured.
They might as well have let him move to White Hart Lane for money.
