Following a strong first season in Villarreal’s first-team, Samu Chukwueze has once again caught the eye with his early season performances for the Spanish side.
Two goals and two assists in his first six games have allegedly led to the La Liga club to try and tie the winger down to a new contract, according to OwnGoalNigeria.com, but there is no rush from the player’s end to put pen to paper.
The website state the 20-year-old has a ‘dream of playing in England’, where he nearly went in 2016, only for a move to Arsenal to ‘fail’.
That was when he was back at the Diamond Academy in Nigeria, since he only moved to Villarreal in 2017, but the chance of playing in the Premier League could return in the near future.
OwnGoalNigeria state the player’s ‘new representative will study the new deal but won’t rush into signing because of interest from clubs in England’.
His clause at Villarreal currently stands at €65m, but the Spaniards are ‘looking at ways to increase it’ with the contract offer, with talks having ‘already started in that direction’.
Whether the Gunners are one of the teams in England looking at him isn’t said, but if they were interested three years ago, and he’s now performing well at a higher level, we don’t see why they would have given up on him.
However, with the signing of Nicolas Pépé to bolster the right-hand side this summer, it might not be an area Arsenal will be looking to spend huge sums in anytime soon.
