Following the recent rumours linking Benfica midfielder João Neves to a Manchester United move, that story just got a big boost with the comments from a Red Devils’ star.
Bruno Fernandes this week spoke to Sport TV, and in a video brought by Cabine Desportiva, he’s asked about his compatriot’s future.
Even though the Manchester United captain claimed not to know anything about the move, he made it clear that Neves would be ready for it were it to take place this summer.
“João is an excellent player, he has excellent qualities. He’s been showing them and that’s why he’s been called up to the national team and why he’s attracted the attention of the big European sharks.
“I don’t know if that’s true or not about United, but what I do know is that I think João is mentally and technically ready for this leap. Because he’s a very intelligent kid, he knows what he wants, he’s very hard-working,” said Bruno Fernandes.
João Neves is enjoying his first full season for Benfica’s first team, and it has been impressive enough for him to get heavily linked to a summer transfer.
There was a point where the Eagles even had to make an official statement claiming Manchester United do not have a preference over the player, dismissing news from the rumour mill.
Neves is protected by a €120m release clause, and is one of the assets that could give Benfica a big financial boost in the summer.
The Portuguese media already claimed the Eagles plan to sell either him or Antonio Silva, who’s also a player with huge potential, also being linked to Manchester United.
