For the past couple of weeks, the Moises Caicedo saga has turned into a mix of what’s been reported in Europe and what’s said in South America.
Both media had been agreeing that Manchester United are after the Independiente Del Valle midfielder, and following claims from England that Chelsea have joined the race, the news was covered in Ecuador as well.
Now for the first time, we see a local Ecuadorian journalist confirming that the Blues are in for the 19-year-old, with the information coming from Roberto Omar Machado.
He claims by saying “to my knowledge” that Chelsea have “shown interest” in the youngster, while Manchester United haven’t even made contact for him.
Ningún emisario, empresario o directivo del Manchester United tomó contacto con IDV para preguntar por Moises Caicedo. Según pude conocer, el Chelsea sí mostró interés por el joven mediocampista ecuatoriano.

The journalist doesn’t make it sound like the Blues’ chase is in advanced stage, so that’s perhaps where we might see some updates about in the coming weeks.
For the past few years, Chelsea haven’t been a club who are used to sign youngsters directly from South American sides, so their pursuit for Caicedo would probably mean a new standard in their recruiting plans.
