Newcastle United have a ‘short route’ to manager Julian Nagelsmann if they choose to move ‘seriously’ for him in the summer.
That’s according to journalist Christian Falk, who insists Nagelsmann is at the top of Newcastle’s managerial wish list to replace Eddie Howe.
Reports yesterday stated that Newcastle were looking at a potential move for Nagelsmann in the summer as they look to potentially move on from Howe.
Those reports explained that it remained to be seen what Nagelsmann’s next step may be in the summer as his contract with Germany only runs until the end of Euro 2024.
Thus, it’s currently unclear if he will remain in charge of the country or elect to step back into club football and continue his career there.
If it is the latter then Newcastle would be happy to take him, with the club considering a change of manager after something of a disappointing season following their successes last season.
Nagelsmann is reportedly at the top of the list and is represented by the same agency as Fabian Schar, meaning there could be a deal there to be done if they want it.
Falk explains the situation further, stating that it would be a ‘short route’ for Newcastle to get Nagelsmann if they want him.
“That’s true. According to our information, Julian Nagelsmann should be at the top of the list at Newcastle, and not without reason,” he told BILD.
“The current coach Eddie Howe crashed in the Premier League on 10th place in the Champions League. The club, which has invested a lot, has of course imagined it quite differently.
“Nagelsmann is of course under contract with the DFB, but only until summer, where it has to be discussed whether it will continue to the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada, or whether he wants to return to a club.
“Newcastle would be interested. And the connection is really good, because Fabi Schär, a player like Nagelsmann at the Sports 360 agency, plays in the club. So, they know each other, it’s a short route if they want to take it seriously.”
