Hammarby IF manager Kim Hellberg is set to snub Swansea City for Middlesbrough.
That’s according to Fotbollskanalen, who report Middlesbrough have verbally agreed with the Swansea City target.
Earlier this month, Swansea City parted ways with Alan Sheehan and they held talks with Hellberg in London last week. This meeting was confirmed by the Swedish club. At the time, it was also reported there were other unnamed Championship clubs in the running.
Fotbollskanalen reports the Swede also had a meeting with Middlesbrough during his trip to England.
It’s claimed Middlesbrough have overtaken Swansea City in the race and are close to securing the 37-year-old’s signature.
Fotbollskanalen state Middlesbrough were working behind the scenes whilst Swansea City took the headlines.
Swansea are currently 18th in the table while Middlesbrough are second, five points behind leaders Coventry City.
Boro are in the running to secure promotion to the Premier League. This, coupled with their better resources attracted Hellberg to pick them over the Welsh club.
According to the report, there are only details left to be sorted out between Hellberg and Middlesbrough. They are set to activate the SEK 2.5-3n [€230-270k] release clause in his contract.
