Middlesbrough have overtaken Swansea City in the race to appoint Hammarby IF’s Kim Hellberg as their new manager. The Championship duo are currently without permanent managers and both have been keen on the Swede.

Swansea City held talks with Hellberg in London last week. Earlier today, Fotbollskanalen reported Boro took the opportunity to speak with him in England.

They also reported Middlesbrough have reached a verbal agreement with the Swansea City target and the parties are sorting out final details.

Expressen, another Swedish source, backs up Fotbollskanalen’s report and provide the latest.

The newspaper states the Hammarby IF boss has agreed a multi-year contract with Middlesbrough.

It’s claimed Hellberg is in England and is expected to sign his Middlesbrough contract on Monday, if there are no last-minute surprises. If he doesn’t sign it today, it’s likely to be done in the next few days.

Middlesbrough are second in the table while Swansea City are 18th. This and greater resources is being given in Sweden as the reason for a late change of heart.
