Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has given an interview to ESPN Brasil ahead of the start of the Premier League.
To start the chat, the Denmark international spoke a little a bit about Brazilian players, and revealed he’s a fan of the World Cup champion Taffarel, who faced his father in the 1998 tournament.
Schmeichel also talked a little about the Brazilian goalkeepers in the Premier League, Manchester City’s Ederson and Liverpool’s Alisson.
Asked if he’s an admirer of Ederson, the Leicester player said: “Oh, very much so. I think for someone, particularly at that age, to be playing fearlessly as he is, playing with high risk, and his reading of the game has been exceptional.
“And I think it’s a trademark of Guardiola, we saw exactly how he played with Neuer as well. Last season, for me, he was definitely the best goalkeeper in the league.
“Alisson obviously is a top class goalkeeper from what I’ve seen. Performed brilliantly for Roma and obviously for Brazil as well, to be able to keep out a goalkeeper like Ederson, it says a lot about him.”
About starting the Premier League season in Manchester, Schmeichel recalled his early career in the city: “Playing for Manchester City was great, because they were the ones who gave me my chance, and they were the ones who believed in me.
“I went on trial at Manchester United, and I wasn’t offered a contract. When on trial at Manchester City, I was offered a contract.
“I’m grateful to Manchester United, because they kind of fed the hunger, but Manchester City gave me my chance, gave my chance in the Premier League, they believed in me and for that I’ll always be grateful. ”
Kasper Schmeichel also talked a little about the Premier League title he won with Leicester back in 2016: “It was always not just a dream, but was a goal of mine, and being able to do it in the way we did it, was amazing.”
And when asked if they can do it again, he said: “After that season, I will never say anything is impossible in football.”
