Leicester City’s biggest stars must be dizzy right now. Jamie Vardy has broken scoring records, been named FWA Player of the Year, partied, been stalked by a lookalike, got married, been named in England’s Euro 2016 squad and had Arsenal trying to convince him to sign for them.
N’Golo Kante has won PFA Player of the Year, come from nowhere into France’s Euro 2016 squad and potentially even Deschamps’ starting eleven, and been pursued by clubs around Europe eager to sign up the midfielder.
Premier League champions Leicester will feel like they’re spinning plates at the moment, trying to keep their players at the club. A little good news comes from France on Tuesday, via L’Equipe newspaper. They say that the chances of Kante staying at Leicester are increasing, as the club look to give him a new deal.
PSG are said to maintain a regular contact with the player’s entourage, but Kante isn’t overly keen on a return to France. More danger for Leicester comes from Arsenal, with L’Equipe saying the club could quickly take action after Vardy. It’s claimed a budget of €40m has been set aside, despite a €25m release clause… the release clauses may not be quite as straightforward as they sound.
Chelsea and Manchester City are also keeping an eye on developments, waiting for the player to decide if he’s staying or going. For Kante an exit isn’t a sure thing, a Leicester stay is quite possible, and he doesn’t want to be rushed… he’s got a lot on at the moment.
