Rangers striker Sam Lammers could have his choice of clubs this summer after impressing on loan at FC Utrecht.

That’s according to Martijn Krabbendam and Geert-Jan Jakobs, who believe several sides could be keen if he leaves Ibrox on a permanent basis.

Lammers left Rangers on a temporary basis in the January transfer window after falling out of favour under Philippe Clement after his arrival at Ibrox last year.

He elected to return to the Netherlands with Utrecht on loan until the end of the season and has proven to be a massive hit, bagging eight goals and three assists in 14 games in the Eredivisie so far.

That’s a tally he seems likely to add to before the end of the season and so that raises questions about what happens to him in the summer.

His current deal with Rangers expires in 2027 and Utrecht don’t have an option to make his current loan from Ibrox permanent, so he will be rejoining Philippe Clement’s squad as things stand.

That is presumably a situation that neither party wants given the situation before he left, but the two journalists believe that may be avoidable anyway.

“He is a beautiful player to look at, but something is missing,” Krabbendam told Voetbal International’s Rondje Eredivisie.

“It can’t be the fault of all those coaches who haven’t given him confidence, can it? There must be something in his game, in his character perhaps, that he will have to improve to take that step up. But if you analyse him as a player, there is little wrong with him.”

“He has to find a good club with a good trainer,” added Jan Jakobs.

“Twente will go for Weghorst, but Lammers would also be a great move for me if they try to get him. I wouldn’t find it illogical if a club like Feyenoord thinks about Lammers.

“I’m curious about what he does and what he wants. Maybe he will say: I am so happy at Utrecht; I am going to play football here for another year.

“But that is usually not what those football players want, they want to earn more money in a major competition more often, but he has to go now think: what suits me and what do I want?”
