Chelsea owner Todd Boehly gets completely slammed in the Dutch media today.
That’s done in a column from Het Patrool journalist Henk Spaan, who talks a little about how the American businessman acted in the January transfer window.
The first criticism towards Boehly is regarding the transfer of Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea to Paris Saint Germain. There, he’s knocked for not being able to conclude the deal. That’s enough for the writer to say the Blues’ owner may know ‘something about baseball but absolutely nothing about football’.
Then comes the main part, which is about the signing of Enzo Fernandez. Spaan points out that the midfielder had a €55m market value after the World Cup. It’s then claimed the player didn’t even had such good performances in the tournament, and still Chelsea paid €120m.
It’s said Boehly is a ‘crazy’ American, but not all of them are, since Marseille owner Frank McCourt has been doing a good job there, first by hiring Pablo Longoria and then by signing Morocco star Azzedine Ounahi for only €8m in January.
Then comes Spaan’s question, which is the central point of all his story: “As a supporter, who would you rather have in your team: Ounahi or Fernandez? Furthermore, Marseille are already 10 games unbeaten, nine won, one draw.”
