Arne Slot wants to sign Feyenoord defender David Hancko, who could be the long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool.

That’s according to journalist Süleyman Öztürk, who is full of praise for the defender today in comments relayed by FR 12.

Hancko has a growing reputation in Europe after impressing for the Dutch side in the last few years and added to that with a stellar performance against AC Milan in the Champions League this week.

The Slovakian was named man of the match in the Dutch side’s 1-1 draw, which helped them to secure progression to the next stage of the Champions League with a 2-1 win over aggregate.

It was the latest in a series of impressive performances from the defender, who was already linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

He had plenty of suitors at that point, and Juventus have also been credited with an interest too as they continue to try and strengthen their defence.

Süleyman Öztürk can certainly see the defender making a big move before too long, and insists Liverpool courtesy of Arne Slot, are keen on him.

“Hancko is really very important for Feyenoord, perhaps more important than you realize,” he said in his column for Voetbal International.

“Feyenoord fans will know that, because they watch him in the stadium every week. He has been really good for a long time. “Of course they have already lost a striker, but in the back, there is a boy who should actually be playing for Atlético or Arsenal. That is why you are through.

“If they (other teams) can pick a Feyenoord player, top clubs and top trainers will end up with him. Where can he go? Liverpool! Arne Slot wants him of course. Why not Liverpool? You have to aim high; he is that good.”
