The future of Nottingham Forest midfielder Gustavo Scarpa suddenly became a big story in Brazil, where big clubs are said to be interested in his signing.
The latest news comes from Paulo Vinícius Coelho, a very reliable UOL journalist, who claims the player’s former club Palmeiras have been in touch for his signing.
According to his report, Nottingham Forest and his current loan club Olympiacos are not interested in letting Scarpa leave on a loan deal in January.
It’s said the only possibility of a move to Brazil would be a permanent deal. That’s not the only issue, as the player himself is still to be heard about that scenario.
“The next question is: Does Scarpa want to come back? I haven’t had that answer, but if you have a negotiation, from Palmeiras’ point of view, it’s more or less clear that the club can’t afford to make a heavy investment in a player who’s going to be 30 years old. To bring him back spending big on his signing, but if it’s a loan, yes,” said Paulo Vinícius Coelho.
“This scenario makes the situation difficult, unless Scarpa wants to return. And then let the negotiation with Olympiacos be facilitated because he’s not being used at the moment.”
Scarpa was signed by Nottingham Forest on a free transfer in January and only made ten appearances for the club. Since his loan to Olympiacos, he’s only played seven times, and hasn’t even been involved in the match-day squad for a few of their latest games.
The midfielder is still valued by Transfermarkt at €8m, so if the Reds want to make some money with a sale, that seems like very good timing.
