Quilindschy Hartman was definitely interested in leaving Burnley for Ajax this month, despite insisting otherwise.
That’s according to journalist Mike Verweij, who has continued to argue against the Burnley defender. His comments on De Telegraaf’s Kick-off have been relayed by FC Update.
Hartman has been a topic of discussion over the last week after reports that Ajax were interested. De Telegraaf, among other Dutch newspapers, suggested that the former Feyenoord man was open to joining Ajax on loan from Burnley this month.
That was something he had indicated to the Dutch giants, pushing them to make a move. All appeared to be going well, before Hartman then issued a statement on Instagram dismissing the rumours. That, incidentally, came after fury from Feyenoord fans about the potential transfer.
Hartman insisted that he had not been in contact with Ajax, as had been suggested.
Burnley player “really wanted to go”
Verweij quickly came out after that insist Hartman had signalled to Ajax that he was keen on the move.
That is something he is now doubling down on. It appears the journalist is having none of the story the Burnley man is trying put out there.
“That transfer also raised the question at Ajax: ‘Should Hartman really want this?’” he said.
“Ajax was interested. They considered him a type of player who could take Ajax further. They are looking for a left back, and he is a potential international. It was clearly stated that he wanted to go to Ajax. Then they started talking, and suddenly the deal was pulled.
“Hartman was actually offered to Ajax. After Hartman’s statement, I checked with Ajax again. He really wanted to go to Ajax.”
