Arsenal ‘want’ to sign Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García in the summer window, according to Journalist Gerard Romero, relayed by Mundo Deportivo.
The 23-year-old is a product of the Spanish club’s youth system and made his way into their first team during the 2021/22 season.
Since then, García has kept 13 clean sheets and conceded 21 goals from 29 matches. He played a role in helping Espanyol secure promotion to the top flight.
The stopper has received a call-up to represent Spain at the Olympics. Mundo say García deserves this as he was ‘one of the best’ goalkeepers in the Segunda División last season.
It’s claimed there are a few clubs who ‘dream’ of signing him this summer. There have been rumours of Real Madrid’s interest in him, while he also has admirers in the Premier League.
This is when Romero mentions Arsenal, and he has made a bold claim that García ‘will soon’ be the north London club’s player.
The Spaniard has a €25m release clause in his deal that lasts until 2028. The report says his affordable asking price is a ‘gift’ for teams like Arsenal.
On Wednesday, AS insinuated Tottenham Hotspur have made an offer to sign the stopper, and Spurs don’t get a mention in Mundo’s report.
