Burnley are on the right track to return to the Premier League after being relegated from the top-flight last season.
The Clarets appointed Vincent Kompany as their new manager in the summer and he’s helped them enjoy a good run this season.
After 21 matches, Burnley sit on top of the Championship table with 41 points, and are three points ahead of second placed Sheffield United.
The work carried out by the ex-Manchester City star at Burnley has not gone unnoticed as recent reports have named him as a candidate for the vacant Belgium job.
De Rode Duivels are searching for a new manager after Roberto Martínez stepped down from his position following Belgium’s failure to get out of the group stages at the World Cup.
Het Nieuwsblad journalist Pieter-Jan Calcoen appeared on RTBF’s program, Complètement Foot, where he said the Burnley coach has a desire to manage the national team.
“He is interested in the position of coach of De Rode Duivels and the national team will come to him one day or another, but it is not the right timing. He wants to stay and blend body and soul into the process initiated at Burnley,” Calcoen said.
The journalist further went into further detail, saying that Kompany’s entourage have informed him the 36-year-old remains focused on his role at Burnley.
“According to the information I have obtained from Vincent Kompany’s entourage, for the moment he would not be interested in the position of coach of De Rode Duivels. He wants to continue to raise the club, to make it progress, he wants to continue his adventure. He is a young coach, he wants to test himself and needs to work daily with a team,” Calcoen explained.
