Virgil van Dijk is unlikely to leave Liverpool this summer; despite insisting he was considering his future after the Netherlands were knocked out of Euro 2024.
That’s according to journalist Gianluca di Marzio, who says the big money on offer from Saudi Arabia might not be enough to convince the Dutchman this year.
Van Dijk has been linked with a potential departure from Liverpool this summer as he enters the final year of his deal at Anfield.
The rumours were given extra fuel when he admitted he needed to think long and hard about his future at club and international level following the Netherlands’ disappointing loss to England in the semi-finals of Euro 2024.
A move to Saudi Arabia would certainly be on offer with clubs from the Saudi Pro League continuing to target Europe’s biggest names this summer with big offers and contracts to tempt them into the move.
Di Marzio, though, believes this summer may not be the one in which he moves and instead he’ll wait another year before making a decision.
“I don’t think Van Dijk will leave this summer,” he told Soccer News.
“In this period of change after the Jurgen Klopp era, I think Virgil can be so important to convey Liverpool’s ideas to the new coach so I don’t think they will let him go.
“At the end of this season we will see whether he will leave or not. I don’t think he will play for another Premier League team.
“But it is likely that offers will come from Saudi Arabia, because he is a sought-after player there. They will come, I don’t know when, with hot proposals for him and we will see whether he wants to accept them or stay in Europe, to fight for titles and the Champions League.”
