With a few days until the end of the transfer window, Giovani Lo Celso is still a big candidate to leave Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite his recent loan spells at Real Betis and Villarreal, he’s now more linked with a move to Italy, where Napoli are reportedly interested in his signing.
Some comments on this pursuit have been made on Italian radio, where pundit Carmine Martino talked about the Serie A side’s transfer plans. The quotes are relayed by CalcioNapoli24.
“I think that a last-gasp shot could come on the market,” said Martino.
“Amrabat could be the case for Napoli, we must also take into account the African Cup. I think the Azzurri could close for Lo Celso, but Tottenham could accept an offer from the Azzurri in order to loan him out. I bet on the Argentine instead of Amrabat but maybe the opposite happens.”
According to a report from Il Mattino at the weekend, Napoli are ready to offer Tottenham a €4m loan fee, with the agreement including a €14m buying option.
The Serie A side, however, wouldn’t want to cover Lo Celso’s entire salary. So from the €4.3m after-tax he makes per year at Spurs, they’d only pay half.
Tottenham’s stance is obviously said to be that they prefer a sale, but it doesn’t really look like they’ll find buyers this week.
Lo Celso hadn’t played in the first two games of the season, and ended up having 16 minutes on the pitch against Bournemouth. A loan would certainly depend on Ange Postecoglou’s decision.
