Earlier today, we’ve saw claims from the Italian media claiming José Mourinho is interested in bringing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to AS Roma.
Calcio Mercato now follow that up with a story about the Giallorossi’s need for a new centre-back, and another Spurs player is linked to the Serie A side as a result.
According to the report, Roma could go after a defender in January, and Eric Dier is a name on the table.
The Englishman is praised for his ‘running, explosiveness and experience’, and obviously knows Mourinho ‘very well’ from the time they spent together at Tottenham.
Calcio Mercato highlights that Dier’s contract with Spurs expires in 2024, and the fact he’s still to play for the club this season under Ange Postecoglou makes his exit more likely.
The player’s €5m yearly salary at Tottenham doesn’t scare Roma, so it’s the kind of operation that fits all the requirements, as long as he’s keen on the move.
The Giallorossi are worried about the physical situation of Chris Smalling, and see the Tottenham player as another Englishman to command their defence and, presumably, help ease the load on his fellow countryman.
