Sevilla’s José Ángel Carmona turned down an opportunity to join Nottingham Forest in the summer window.

The 23-year-old has been speaking to Onda Cero, explaining why he didn’t accept the Reds’ proposal.

In the last two weeks of the window, Nottingham Forest made advances to sign the right-back. On August 21st, Estadio Deportivo reported Nottingham Forest had reached an agreement for €11m with the La Liga club, but not with the defender. He analysed the English club’s offer with his agent before rejecting it.

Two days later, Mucho Deporte reported Sevilla were surprised at José Ángel Carmona’s decision to snub a move to Nottingham Forest.

They had to sell some players to improve their finances, and the fullback was one of the candidates who could have helped them in this regard. The Spaniard’s refusal to join the Premier League side didn’t go down well with a section of Sevilla fans.

José Ángel Carmona has said supporters tried to put pressure on him, but he wasn’t going to budge. The player, who graduated from Sevilla’s academy, explained why he was determined to stay.

“Nottingham Forest are a team that’s doing well. It was about playing in the Premier League, and the offer was very good financially for me and my family, but I felt it wasn’t the time to leave,” he said.

“I’ve been fighting to be in the first team since I was 7. I didn’t want to leave after leaving Sevilla in 17th place. If I leave the club of my life, which isn’t in my plans, let it be when things have gone well.

“I understand that the fans were looking out for the club and thought I could leave money for the club, but that wasn’t my idea. They gave me a hard time, but after being here since I was a child, I’m not going to change my mind just because someone tells me I have to leave. And I think I made the right decision.”
