Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is working to buy Portimonense, two years after Manchester City and others failed taking over the Portuguese club.

Saturday’s Correio da Manhã again relays Portimonense majority shareholder Theodoro Fonseca already rejected approaches made by Manchester City, Chinese and Mexican clubs in 2020. Two years later, the Primeira Liga side are now probed again, this time by the Chelsea owner.
Boehly’s ‘expression of interest’ to buy Portimonense came through Jorge Mendes. The super-agent was given a mandate to find a club in Portugal that meets the Blues’ requirements.
Portimonense has pleased the American because he believes they could be an ideal club for both Chelsea’s young talent to develop and also help them bring in talents from outside Europe.Fonseca has an 89% stake in the club, and he has neither accepted nor rejected an offer because Boehly has not made a bid so far.
Correio da Manhã further add Portimonense would never negotiate sale for less than €40m. It needs to be seen whether the Chelsea chairman will meet this requirement to purchase another club.
