Now that Steve Bruce has been finally pushed away, Newcastle United are looking for someone to replace him.

They have been for a while, but the new ownership seemed to decide that sacking the former defender right before his 1000th game as a manager might look bad, so they did it after instead.

Many names have been linked with the job, including glamorous options such as Antonio Conte or Zinedine Zidane, but they seem a tad unrealistic for now.

There needs to be someone for the transition period, someone capable of turning the club on its head and stabilising it before the real top candidates become interested.

That man, according to Calciomercato.it, could be Gennaro Gattuso, currently without a job following his time at Napoli.

The Italian manager was linked to the Tottenham job before past comments of his put an end to that, but Jorge Mendes hasn’t given up hope on trying to place his client in the Premier League.

The website reveal the super agent ‘is working to obtain the possibility that Gattuso is immediately included among the possible replacements for Bruce’.

The former defensive midfielder ‘would accept a fixed-term contract and then play for a reconfirmation in the event of avoiding relegation and a strong second half of the season’.

For him, it would be a ‘way of relaunching himself after what happened in the summer’.

Something to keep in mind, especially since this isn’t the first time Mendes has tried to send Gattuso to Newcastle, having already done so in 2019 back when Rafa Benítez was still in charge.
