With a new president, young players breaking through and a potential departure of Lionel Messi, Barcelona are clearly in the middle of a big rebuilding process.

It also looks like their future might become tied to one of the most powerful agents in European football, Jorge Mendes, and even though the representative had close ties with Real Madrid, his contacts are now showing him at Camp Nou.

The Portuguese official already has Ansu Fati, one of Barcelona’s most promising youngsters, as one of his clients, and according to the Catalan media today, there’s one more player joining him.

Mundo Deportivo writes that Mendes is now set to represent Alejandro Balde, having already signed with the 17-year-old, who’s considered to a big prospect from La Masia.

Balde’s contract with Barcelona expires next year, which means Mendes will now have the fullback’s renewal in his hands, and the Catalan media take it as a sign the agent’s power is growing stronger within the club’s academy.

With the representative continuing to have a big influence in the Premier League, with several clients at clubs such as Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers, perhaps we shall soon see some exciting deals being worked with Barcelona as well.
