Jorg Schmadtke will remain at Liverpool until the end of the January transfer window but has decided he wants to return to his private life.
That’s according to Sky Germany, who cover the sporting director today after reports yesterday he will be leaving Anfield.
They report that, according to their information, the collaboration between Liverpool and Schmadtke ‘will continue’ for the time being.
The 59-year-old will continue to support the Reds as sporting director in the upcoming transfer window, which opens on January 1st.
Everyone at Liverpool is ‘very satisfied’ with the work they’ve done together so far but Sky’s information that is that the relationship between the pair will end in February after the window closes.
This is because Schmadtke ‘would like to return to his private life’ having initially planned to retire at the beginning of this year.
He cancelled that idea to join Liverpool in the summer at the request of Jurgen Klopp to help support them in their rebuild, but the agreement was only ever supposed to be a short-term one.
He now wants to see the club through the January transfer window and then depart, leaving their future business in someone else’s hands.
