John Heitinga arrived at Liverpool in the summer to become a key part of Arne Slot’s backroom team at Liverpool.
With Slot facing the big task of replacing Jurgen Klopp, he worked to add to his usual backroom team and Heitinga was the man chosen. At the time, reports in the Netherlands explained that Heitinga’s experience in England, where he played for Everton and Fulham and was an assistant manager at West Ham, was seen as an invaluable addition.
With Slot doing immediately well at Liverpool it reflects some credit back towards his compatriot and that will be one of the reasons for the claims of a potential move to West Bromwich Albion.
West Brom are on the search for a new permanent manager after seeing Carlos Corberan leave to take on the chaos at Valencia. Corberan is from the area and the job was too tempting for him to turn down.
Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf has now contacted Heitinga’s agent to ask about the claims the coach could be on his way to West Brom.
Rob Jansen was typically blunt, and De Telegraaf quote him as saying: “John will definitely stay at Liverpool this season.”
That should be that, then.
