If Jobe Bellingham wanted a sign that things haven’t worked at Borussia Dortmund since his move from Sunderland, BILD may have just provided it.
They cover the midfielder today and how he’s been hailed as the ‘training champion’ at the German club. They accompany this with an image of him training, hard.
The newspaper explains that there’s still plenty of improvement left for the former Sunderland man. His record so far is 27 games, one goal and three assists. Not quite what Dortmund were expecting when they won the battle to get him from Sunderland this summer.
The midfielder is still ‘waiting for his breakthrough’. But, according to BILD, there is an internal belief at Dortmund that is about to happen.
They’re currently focused on changing his physique, which they think is too muscular. He’s considered ‘too massive’ to fully utilise his pace. The goal is to reduce some muscle mass so he can become more agile and explosive on the pitch, similar to his brother.
More optimism shown since he arrived from Sunderland

Dortmund’s management are convinced they can get the England U21 international back on track. Internally he is considered a “training champion” who just hasn’t translated that to the pitch, yet.
The German side have seen this before with other players. And it seems they’re now determined to ensure the big signing from Sunderland can get his breakthrough at last.
For Jobe Bellingham, it may be refreshing to see the German media on his side after months of doubts.
