The weekend was another difficult time for Barcelona as they lost 2-0 away to Atletico Madrid.
Luis Suarez was able to get his revenge on the club and Ronald Koeman, and did so via his goal celebration.
According to Sport, multiple Barcelona directors were surprised that the Dutchman was still in charge for the match against Diego Simeone’s side.
There had been an assumption that following Laporta’s anger after the defeat to Benfica in Lisbon, Koeman would quickly be shown the door.
The club president was said to be furious not only with the result and the poor performance, but also with the way his manager set-up the team to play against the Portuguese side.
Sport say that stance saw an expectation Koeman would imminently go, with even Laporta making clear there was no way back… it’s now a matter of when and not if.
However, Sport explain a meeting was held between the two men on Saturday morning, and Laporta then sent a WhatsApp to Barcelona directors saying Koeman would be continuing, for now at least.
