Sunderland’s move for Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi received a lot of attention in the summer.

The Italian side stood firm in their stance about the defender despite his agent publicly asking for a transfer. The 27-year-old started the campaign featuring regularly for Bologna this season but things aren’t going well.

Corriere dello Sport note this is because the ‘transfer market has left its mark’ on Lucumi.

The Colombian was hoping for a move to Sunderland until deadline day. Nothing materialised and he ended up making a glaring error in Bologna’s opening day defeat to AS Roma.

Now, Lucumi is looking more ‘careless’ on the pitch than he ever was. As a result, he has also lost his starting spot under Vincenzo Italiano.

Sunderland scouts watched the defender closely against Aston Villa in the Champions League and apparently that didn’t help. This is because he remains keen on a move to the Premier League.

In the meantime, Bologna have already put a contract renewal on the table but there has been no response. This has gone on for several weeks now and has turned into a frustrating situation.

Bologna are also hoping for Lucumi revival on the pitch and want him to get back to his best.
