Crystal Palace have seen Jean-Philippe Mateta’s situation take another deadline day turn after his proposed move to AC Milan collapsed, reopening the picture around the striker in the final hours of the winter window. The information comes from journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Reports in Italy state that the London club had reached a verbal agreement with Milan in recent days, only for the Rossoneri to pull back following further checks and internal doubts over the Frenchman’s condition.
Juventus are among those clubs. According to Tuttosport, the Turin side had already been watching from the sidelines before Milan’s late hesitation.
The Bianconeri gathered information earlier and stayed alert in case the Rossoneri failed to close the operation. That scenario has now materialised, and Juventus are again assessing whether to step in during the final stretch of the market.
There is, however, a key difference in approach. Milan aimed for a permanent transfer, while Juventus have previously explored a loan-based solution, a formula that would require fresh talks with Palace.
The Premier League side, for their part, have already looked at replacements, with reports in Italy suggesting Jørgen Strand Larsen as a possible option.
For now, Mateta remains a Crystal Palace player, but with Milan out and Juventus circling once again, his next steps remain to be seen as the window edges towards its conclusion.
