Dutch side PEC Zwolle could be set to earn a welcomed ‘jackpot’ from Liverpool’s sale of Sepp van den Berg.
That’s according to De Telegraaf, who report that the Eredivisie side are keeping a close eye on matters regarding the defender as he looks set to leave Anfield.
Liverpool are currently in the process of selling Van den Berg to either Brentford or Bayer Leverkusen, with both sides having agreed to a deal worth around £25m.
The Dutchman has been linked with a move away from Anfield all summer after returning from a successful loan spell at Mainz last season.
All indications are that he wants to move on and get first team football, which does not appear to be on offer under Arne Slot.
Liverpool have held out for a top fee for the defender throughout the last month and are now getting what they wanted. And that’s very good news for PEC Zwolle.
De Telegraaf report that when they sold Van den Berg to Liverpool in 2019, they agreed a resale percentage of 15%. That’s turned out to be a ‘golden move’ as they’ll now pocket €4m in the upcoming deal.
In addition, the Dutch side will receive half of the player’s training compensation, amounting to around €733,000. If the defender decides to move back to Germany with Leverkusen, they’ll also receive move from the international solidarity contribution. That’s worth around €700,000.
So, if he chooses Bayer Leverkusen they’ll end up with around €5.4m this summer. A move to Brentford will net them €4.7m. They’re both tidy sums they’ll happily accept, and the Dutch side are now eagerly waiting to see who the defender chooses.
