Celtic want to add Go Ahead Eagles’ Jakob Breum to Brendan Rodgers’ squad this summer and have already made an approach.
On Monday, Voetbal International reported the Scottish champions are still interested in the winger, after their initial bid of €1.5m was rejected. They also said Celtic have returned with two improved bids, neither of which satisfied the Dutch club.
Celtic aren’t the only club to have shown interest in the 21-year-old as FC Twente have also contacted their Eredivisie rivals to ask about him.
That’s according to Go Ahead Eagles director Jan Willem van Dop and he revealed this during a chat with De Oosttribune, relayed by Twente Fans.
Willem van Dop stated Twente technical director Jan Streuer contacted him regarding the attacker and Joris Kramer. Go Ahead Eagles have ruled out a move for Kramer, but are open to selling the Celtic target in this window.
The Go Ahead Eagles’ official mentioned Celtic’s offer when discussing Twente’s approach to sign the Denmark U21 international.
“Then he [Streuer] had a second question, and that was about Jakob Breum. That’s negotiable, but as long as the price is right. And we didn’t reach an agreement on that,” he said.
“What I did find positive: his thoughts were certainly higher than the official offer Celtic ever made. That was €1.5m.
“I’ve told Celtic that we won’t be accepting their offer. I spoke to Breum’s agent on the phone Monday morning, and he hopes he’ll go in that direction. We’re certainly not the most difficult club, but it has to be a good fit. And if we can’t reach a financial agreement, we also have the right to say: well, it’s not going to happen.”
In short, Willem van Dop explained his side are open to selling Breum if there’s a convincing offer.
