Newcastle United youngster Yankuba Minteh has admitted he’s not yet visited the city and doesn’t know what the future holds once his loan deal at Feyenoord comes to an end.

The winger has been speaking to Algemeen Dagblad regarding his spell at Feyenoord, who he joined on loan in the summer transfer window.

It was a busy summer for him as he joined Newcastle in an €8m deal from Odense in Denmark before being immediately loaned out for the season to the Dutch side.

The hope was that he could find his feet in European football in a league that has regularly produced some of the brightest talents on the continent.

So far things are going well on that front for Minteh, who has three goals and one assist in seven games in the Eredivisie despite not yet establishing himself as a starter.

It’s the kind of development that Newcastle will be glad to see, and should he maintain it for the remainder of the campaign, it will lead to interesting discussions about him next summer.

At 19-years-old and with just a year in Europe under his belt it is unlikely he’ll be a first teamer for Newcastle soon, but he admits he doesn’t know what the plan is.

“I was able to sign a contract with Newcastle, but I have never seen the city myself. The club immediately indicated that I would go to Feyenoord on loan. In Rotterdam I also signed my contract with Newcastle. The club brought all kinds of people over to the Netherlands to ensure that my first weeks went well.

“The rental period is until the end of the season. I hear that there are people who hope that I will stay longer. But that’s looking far ahead.

“It is clear that I like it here. I feel the appreciation of the trainers and supporters. And I feel that I am developing myself under this trainer.”
