Mohamed Elyounoussi joined Celtic on loan from Southampton last summer and after struggling initially at the start of the season, the forward has managed to impress for the Bhoys.

The Norway international has seven goals and six assists in all competitions for Neil Lennon’s side.

Speaking to TV2 in February, the 25-year-old admitted he needs to consider his future with the Saints beyond this season.

The former Basel man’s current deal at St Mary’s Stadium is until 2023 and he had initially planned to join Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side for preseason training in the summer.

However, the ongoing campaign has been disrupted by the Covid-19 outbreak and it’s unclear if and when the season will resume.

Elyounoussi has given another interview to TV2, and the Southampton owned player admitted he’s unsure of what’s in store for him after his loan deal with Celtic expires.

“It’s a very strange situation. The plan was a holiday in late May, before I met for training with Southampton. However, now I don’t quite know how it will be,” he said.

Elyounoussi’s comments indicate he never had plans of extending his stay at Celtic beyond this season.

When asked if he sees himself getting a shot at Southampton, Elyounoussi explained: “I still have three years left of the contract with Southampton and I want to show a better side than what I have done.

“I hope I can come back and fight for a place. But at the same time, I really want to finish the season in Celtic and win the title.”
