Huddersfield Town have not enjoyed a good season so far as they are currently languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table.

The Terriers have 14 points from 31 games and are 16 points behind 17th placed Burnley meaning two more defeats will ensure they will be relegated from the top flight club competition in England.

It’s no surprise when the club is not performing well, their players will be subject to criticism, especially on social networking platforms.

However, Huddersfield’s Philip Billing was subjected to racial abuse by an Instagram user and the midfielder shared a screenshot of the comments made against him on Twitter.

The English club took the incident seriously and the user who made those remarks against the Denmark international was arrested later.

Speaking to Danish outlet BT, the 22-year-old was surprised and pleased by the way Huddersfield responded to the whole incident and believes the club also sent a strong message in the process.

“It sends a big signal. I see many who say racism should not be part of football. It should not be part of life at all. It must be gone,” Billing explained.

“There will always be people who have other opinions and that is fair enough. Luckily, I have thick skin and it takes more to get me in a bad mood.”

“They went in hard. I didn’t even know you could be arrested for something like that. When I saw it, I was a little shocked, but it was nice the club supported me.

“Hopefully it can also send a message to many [social] media [users] over there. So those who might have thought to say something like that think more about if they were to write it to a player or person.

“He probably won’t be in prison, I don’t think you can. He probably talked to the police. You can get fines.

“They called me and asked me what I thought was going to happen to him. I didn’t want anything to happen to him and couldn’t share it because he had to be punished. In the end, he is 16 years old and can hopefully learn from it.”
