Oliver Dovin says he hasn’t received assurance from Coventry City over his role at the club.
The goalkeeper joined Coventry City in July 2024. He made 30 appearances in his debut season, which was cut short in March after he suffered a serious injury.
He’s been on the sidelines since then. The 23-year-old, who is yet to return to the pitch, has given a detailed interview to Fotbollskanalen.
Dovin’s injury prompted Coventry City to sign Carl Rushworth on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion in July. He’s played 21 matches in the Championship so far, keeping eight clean sheets and conceding 22 goals.
As things stand, Rushworth will have to return to The Amex after his loan spell with Frank Lampard’s side. Taking this into account, Dovin said the Sky Blues haven’t told him that he’s their ‘real first choice’ goalkeeper.
Too many variables for Coventry City
Although the 23-year-old Sweden international isn’t pleased with this, he understands the English club’s stance.
“From my perspective, it is difficult,” he said.
“It is too early for me, and a lot can happen in these six months that are left. Whatever would be said or said now may be completely different in five months when it matters.
“It is not something I think about. I am just focusing on getting back, because that is the only way I can show what I am about.”
Fotbollskanalen immediately asked the stopper whether Coventry City ‘haven’t been clear’ with him. He expects to have some sort of clarity in the coming months.
“Given the whole situation, we have a good goalkeeper on loan, we have me who is injured, we have a team that is doing well, and we don’t know what league we will play in next season, there are too many variables for a club to be able to be clear about what will happen. We will see at the end of the season,” Dovin explained.
Lampard’s side are currently leading the table with 47 points, five points ahead of second placed Middlesbrough.
