Wednesday saw reports from Sweden that Celtic are making efforts to sign Sebastian Tounekti. Brendan Rodgers’ side have this week faced the disappointment of failing to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League and there’s been criticisms regarding of lack of investment early enough in Celtic’s summer window.

Tounekti is a 23-year-old winger he was born in Norway and represented the country at youth levels before changing his allegiance and choosing to represent Tunisia at senior level.

He only signed for Hammarby IF in February of this year, and Celtic are trying to ensure his stay there is a brief one. The initial reports stated Celtic had offered 33m Krona to the Swedish club, which works out to be around £2.6m.

That wasn’t enough for Hammarby IF and was rejected, but Sweden’s Fotbollskanalen report Celtic are set to return.

According to their information, Celtic are ‘about to make another offer and that it will be about ten million more’.

Presumably that means an extra 10m Krona, which would take it to £3.35m.

Tounekti was asked about Celtic interest at training today, and is quoted as saying: “You get to know some of what’s going on and I’ve heard that there’s interest. Of course it’s great that a big club that often plays in the Champions League wants me. It’s a top club in Europe. It’s great that there’s that kind of interest and it shows that you’ve done something good.”
