Brighton & Hove Albion came very close to securing Clement Bischoff’s services if claims from Denmark are to be believed. The Premier League club agreed a deal with Brøndby IF for him to arrive at The Amex in the summer.
Last Thursday, the left-back reportedly travelled to England to carry out medical tests with the Seagulls.
On Monday, Tipsbladet stated the 19-year-old’s move to Brighton had collapsed due to a last-minute disagreement between the two parties.
Bischoff had to return to the Danish club and Stig Tøfting isn’t pleased with his failure of securing a move to Brighton. A fresh report from Tipsbladet have relayed his comments made to Viaplay Sport News.
Tøfting represented multiple clubs, including Bolton Wanderers, Hamburg SV, AGF and BK Häcken, during his playing career. The Dane was also an assistant at Randers and AGF.
The 55-year-old now works as a pundit is of the belief the youngster’s failed move to Brighton isn’t good for his club. The English club had agreed a €8m plus bonuses with Brøndby and they are now set to miss out on this fee.
“I think that Brøndby are in a bad situation now,” he said.
“We all know how it goes with players who have a year or less left on their contract, so I think it was a fantastic deal for Brøndby. It was just what Jan Bech Andersen [Brøndby owner had longed for.”
Bischoff’s contract lasts until 2026. Without an extension, his compatriot believes Brøndby could be forced to settle for less in the summer.
“If we get to the summer and there is no agreement, I think it will be a really bad case for Brøndby,” Tøfting explained.
“It’s a complex and unfortunate situation, because it was a win-win for everyone. Brøndby got a large sum of money and Bischoff got a dream contract in the Premier League. So, it’s a shame it has ended like this.”
