Former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has spoken to the Turkish press about Cenk Tosun’s recent move to Everton.
The Slovakian centre back left Liverpool in 2016 to join Fenerbahce, after nearly nine years at Anfield.
The Slovakian centre back was quizzed about Everton’s new signing and Skrtel said, as quoted by NtvSpor: “I want to congratulate Cenk Tosun for this transfer. He’s now going to play in the best league in the world. I’m really happy for him. I think he proved his worth and ability while playing in Turkey so I believe he can do very well for Everton.
“He’s gone to one of Liverpool’s biggest rivals and now he’s going to taste the atmosphere of Merseyside derbies. It’ll be a wonderful experience for him and I’ll follow his performances in the Premier League.”
Last week Tosun signed for Everton after weeks of talks between the Premier League side and Besiktas. The transfer was a record for player being transferred from the Turkish Super Lig.
Everton weren’t able to sign the Turkey international before last week’s FA Cup clash with Liverpool, but the 26 year old is in line to make his debut against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
