On Monday, there’s been a little confusion regarding the transfer of Youssef Chermiti from Sporting to Everton.
It had first been claimed that the clubs had agreed a fee for the move, and then said the player was caught by surprise by the news.
It all continues to be quite unclear, with major outlets not sharing fresh stories on the situation, and Radio Renascença’s Bola Branca believes the transfer is going through.
Following the reports about the agreement between Sporting and Everton, the outlet interviewed former Sporting player Litos and asked about the move.
The pundit started by claiming that Chermiti had potential to grow at Sporting, even though he wouldn’t have many chances to prove himself this season.
“[Chermiti] is someone who would grow, but we also saw that at this point, with the addition of Gyokeres and the existence of Paulinho, it would be more difficult to have as many opportunities as he’d have liked. At this point, for the player himself, I believe it would be a good option.”
Then speaking of Everton’s decision to invest in the player, he claimed that this is clearly a long-term project from the Toffees.
“These clubs, when they sign, it is for at least five years. They are players to grow without the tremendous pressure that often exists, unfortunately, in Portuguese football, and these English clubs give time for these kids to grow.”
Chermiti has indeed played little for Sporting’s first team so far, with three goals and two assists in 22 appearances.
It’s likely that Tuesday’s newspapers will have more information on how the situation actually stands, and if the player will be on board with the operation.
