Coming on in the 72nd minute to replace Erik Lamela in order to help Tottenham keep hold of the ball in the last 20 or so minutes of the game against Inter, Harry Winks did end up having an impact on the game, for all the wrong reasons.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, perhaps a bit harshly, the 22-year-old was labelled ‘the worst’ player on the pitch for Spurs, all because of what he did in the 92nd minute.
Seemingly covering the near post for Inter’s corner, the midfielder found himself in some sort of no man’s land when the ball was knocked back towards him by Stefan De Vrij, unable to clear it away while also keeping Matias Vecino, who scored the subsequent header, onside.
The Italian newspaper label this has his ‘huge mistake’, one they believe could prove very costly when the group stages come to an end, as Tottenham also have Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven in their group.
As for Tottenham’s ‘The Best’, that award was given to Christian Eriksen, who scored Spurs’ only goal of the game, praised for his physical continuity, his vision as well as his ‘stubbornness’ on his goal.
