Tottenham are apparently in for Donny Van de Beek, according to Calciomercato, or, at least, that’s what they’d have you believe this week.

Amid news that AS Roma were taking an interest in the Dutch midfielder, the Italian website claimed that both Spurs and Chelsea were also keen, while Barcelona, linked with just about every talented youngster in the Amsterdam team, are also in the mix.

It’s claimed the club are ‘on pole’.

Since we hadn’t really seen anything about this, we figured we’d have a look around, as Tottenham will indeed be in need of some fresh blood if Mousa Dembélé decides to run down his contract.

However, the only recent article we could find about this was in the English media, who just appear to chuck the exact same teams, minus Roma, in a few paragraphs, neither citing sources nor labelling it as an exclusive.

Considering how versatile Donny Van de Beek is, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Mauricio Pochettino was thinking about him to replace Dembélé down the line, but it would take some convincing for Ajax to let him go in a summer where they might also see Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong and Hakim Ziyech leave for greener pastures.

Such a brain drain surely won’t be allowed, meaning someone will have to stay.
