A report on Thursday suggested the leaders of Chelsea will hold a meeting with Maurizio Sarri and try to find an agreement to appoint him as their new manager.
Antonio Conte, who has one year left on his contract, is still in charge at Stamford Bridge. The former Juventus and Italy coach must be removed before bringing in Sarri, who guided Napoli to a second place finish in the Serie A.
Napoli have moved quickly and have appointed Carlo Ancelotti as their new manager. Calicomercato claims there are “two obstacles” delaying Chelsea appointing Sarri as their new manager.
The first one being his release clause at Napoli and the second one is the severance package that Chelsea need to pay Conte to part ways with him.
The 59-year-old’s release clause of €8m at Napoli, and Conte, who cannot wait to leave London, has reportedly asked the Blues to pay his €13m severance package to leave the FA Cup winners. This could collectively cost above €20m for Chelsea.
Despite the two obstacles, there is “great optimism” and a “lot of trust” that Sarri will manage Chelsea, and it could be announced tomorrow.
The report also claims former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique is considered as an alternative.
