Banned from playing football for 10 months, Newcastle United signing Sandro Tonali is allowed to train with his teammates, but nothing beyond that.
Therefore, he has a lot of time on his hands, and he is trying to fill it to the best of his ability to improve himself and return a better person.
That’s what Gazzetta dello Sport explain on Wednesday, revealing what the Newcastle midfielder, now living in Jesmond, is doing.
It’s immediately pointed out that he is ‘immersed in the new reality’ away from the football pitch, as he studies English in the afternoons, now able to express himself in ‘fluent English’.
Outside of those and training, he is having ‘videos sessions with Professor Gabriele Sani’, who was the man he ‘entrusted himself to’ in order to treat his gambling addiction.
It’s this that has prevented him from ‘being under the spotlight’ of St James’ Park, where he had received an incredible welcome when Newcastle bought him from AC Milan this summer.
Earlier this week, he was in Rome to define his involvement in a campaign against gambling addiction, which he will be the ‘spokesperson’ of, with those set to start in 2024.
Other than that, he spends time with his partner, Giulia, as they take ‘a few trips out of town to the large English parks or to the North Sea coasts’.
He also takes part in some activities with Newcastle, as he will be present for the Youth League game on Wednesday afternoon.
In short, Tonali is trying to immerse as best he can into his new environment in order to eventually return to football and the Magpies a better player and human being.
