A few days ago, when we were covering one of Tuttosport’s stories about Matic and Juventus, there was a short sentence which attracted our attention.
When describing the Serbian’s role in Conte’s system, they said he’d play as a defensive midfielder in a 4-2-3-1 alongside N’Golo Kante, and then asked what would Conte do with Cesc Fabregas.
So after Matic reportedly rejected the move to Juventus, suddenly the club (or Tuttosport?) had an idea.
Fabregas could be a target, why not? The newspaper reckon the transfer would cost around €45m plus his high wages, which are said to be €7m net per season.
According to Tuttosport, Chelsea don’t want to sell, since they know the sale would weaken the squad, and Conte plans to fight for trophies this season.
But on the other hand, the newspaper say Fabregas and his agents are considering his options to leave. There’s no evidence he’d prefer a move to Juventus, but the Old Lady would still be confident, as the signing is a “big market opportunity”.
We should’ve seen that coming.
