The hunt in Rome for Antonio Candreva’s replacement continues, and it seems the Adnan Januzaj idea has been dropped altogether now with Lazio moving onto other targets.
The Belgian was hotly tipped as a target for the Serie A club, but with managers making announcements about their upcoming squads all the time, new players have become available.
At least, that’s what Il Tempo seem to think about Lazar Markovic after Jürgen Klopp hinted the Serbian winger could be on his way out this summer, and Lazio now apparently see him as an option.
Their ‘dream’ man is allegedly Ajax’s Anwar El Ghazi, but at €18m to open negotiations, he could end up being a bit too expensive.
Liverpool are also said to be interested in the Dutchman, who could end up being Markovic’s replacement were he to leave, and the Serbia international might end up being the likely option.
Arriving for €25m from Benfica two years ago, Markovic failed to really integrate the Merseyside club, and spent last season on loan at Fenerbahce.
This produced mixed results (two goals and three assists in 21 appearances), and despite working hard in pre-season, a spot in Klopp’s squad still remains unlikely.
Il Tempo reckon Liverpool value him around €10-12m (we reckon that’s a bit low), and state he could be a ‘big investment’ for Lazio, who could see him grow into a great player.
At 23-years-old, it might not really be a gamble, especially if the talent does eventually break through, and it’s a new saga we’ll have to keep an eye on in coming days/weeks.
